You know about Ictopus... What about Pictopus?

Pictopus is a sister resource to Ictopus providing a superb searchable set of photos of great use in the classroom.

http://www.ictopus.org.uk/Pictopus/ is the url... pass it on to the rest of you staff.

Of course, if you haven't sampled the resources on Ictopus sign up and capitalise on the Lessons2go, as well as the other goodies available to help any primary teacher.

  1. Ictopus has some fantastic resources that include lesson ideas that have been contributed by teachers. One of my favourite is taking a video camera on a 'Wellie walk'.
You will find all of the details under the SPG (Sharing Good Practice) tab, number 64, 'Outdoor Learning'. In this article there are also ideas for using the classroom visualiser and taking handheld devices, such as PDAs, on field trips. Well worth a look.

SPG Number 65 continues the theme of outdoor learning and looks at map making using GPS devices. This certainly gives a new dimension to geography!

  2. ICT for EAL
    Another great article from ICTOPUS!
Sharing Good Practice issue number 86 (SPG86) is all about supporting pupils who are learning English as an additional language. It is packed with innovative ideas and suggestions for using time honoured favourites such as Clicker5, 2Simple, PhotoStory3, and Kar2ouche.
It also reports on the YouTube channel newly created by the National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum (NALDIC) who have comissioned 10 videocasts on how ICT can be used to support pupils learning EAL. The 10 videocasts can be viewed at www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=C51EA34FA5807FF6 .
Suggestions for facilitating home/school communication and translations are also listed.
